i just shared this with jo and i thought i'd put it up here too (:

music for me is a very personal connection to God. it's heartfelt and intimate. i love sitting by the piano when no one's around and just playing and singing songs to God. God's been teaching me more and more about true worship recently.

i don't have a piano here in melbourne. while i do have my guitar here, and i do play it almost everyday, it's just not the same as your first instrument. i was intending to get a keyboard, but God told me to wait for one sem at least. He's teaching and challenging me to worship Him without a piano- to rely on the Giver, not the gift. i would love to get my fingers on a piano, but at the same time i also am very at peace about what God's working at in me.

so this is one issue related to worship through which God has been teaching me. another lesson related to worship is what i went through a couple of weeks ago, which led to a few posts which probably looked pretty emo to a lot of you haha.

worship's definitely a lifestyle; our response to God. music is just one component of it, but without a doubt a very special one, as jo and i both find it to be (:

mmm, to have a heart of worship; to bring Him more than a song; to truly worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24)-- these are all things to bear in mind, not just for people who love music, but for everyone.

i love how these lyrics talk about how while music is so dear and intricate already, the best of music still fail to describe the splendour of the One True King. the bolded bits have got to be among the best rhetorical questions i've ever heard.

A Greater Song
By Paul Baloche
VERSE 1
Who could imagine a melody true enough to tell of Your mercy?
Who could imagine a harmony sweet enough to tell of Your love?
I see the heavens proclaiming You day after day
And I know in my heart that there must be a way

CHORUS
To sing a greater song, a greater song to You on the earth (x2)

VERSE 2
Who could imagine a symphony grand enough to tell of Your glory?
Our highest praise but a feeble breath, a whisper of Your thunderous worth
I see the heavens proclaiming You day after day
And I know in my heart that there must be a way

CHORUS
To sing a greater song, a greater song to You on the earth (x4)
Hallelujah, we wanna lift You higher, hallelujah, we wanna lift You higher (repeat)
